The process of Computer Format is not as hard as everybody thinks. Depending on what you want to do, you can find some great resources there at How to Format a Computer.

What you need to know is before you decide to do computer format, is to backup some of your files located in the local hard disk where your current operating system is installed.

In details: Before you do a computer format – backup all the files in My Documents (ex. messenger received files, your personal documents etc) basically everything that you may need from the My Documents folder because that folder will be completely deleted. Next, take a look at your desktop. Do you see some documents you may need ? Back them up too (everything except shortcuts). After you’ve finished backing up My Documents and Desktop, next thing to check is the C: drive (or other drive, if C is not the drive where you’ve installed Microsoft Windows).

(Formatting a PC is to delete all the data that currently is on your Computer and upgrade it to a newer version of an operating system or install the same operating system once again on the same computer.)

A virus has intruded in your PC or you want to upgrade from your older versions of Windows, you will have to format your PC. Formatting your PC can sometimes be a very tough process if you do not have the proper knowledge.

There are many benefits of formatting such as: Faster Computer No Virus etc.

But there are some disadvantages too: You lose all your data You have to install all your favourite software once again.

Now, lets start the process of formatting a PC.

First of all, you will need a bootable disk of WINDOWS XP to boot your computer from the disk. Warning -- Please backup all your data before you format your PC.

The process of formatting is as follows:

1. Insert the WINDOWS XP bootable disk in the CD drive.
2. Restart your PC (if it was already running).
3. Press enter when the monitor reads PRESS ANY KEY.
4. Now comes the time to partition your drives.
5. If you want to delete any partition, press D or L(whichever is displayed on the screen).
6. Afterwards format the drive you want to install the operating system (XP) in.
7. Press ENTER.
8. The formatting will start.
9. Follow the procedures. 10.It should take around 40 minutes for the installation to finish. 11.Use windows(HAVE A GOOD TIME).

First of all, save all your personal files (Pictures, music, movies and videos, documents, etc) to an external storage USB hard drive or burn them to DVD.
To recover your personal data files from a corrupted Windows operating system computer (infected by a virus or other malware) it is best recommended to use a Linux Live CD. If you try to save your data in Windows, you will most likely copy the virus and just carry it to another computer which will also get infected.

Here is what you need to do:
From another good, healthy (non-infected) computer or laptop download Linux Mint 9 Live CD and burn the ISO to a CD.
Here is the download link:
http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=…

Boot your computer or laptop from the Linux Live CD. (change the boot order in your BIOS settings if the computer does not boot from CD).
You are now in a safe virus free Linux environment and you can access any files or folders on your computer or laptop and copy your data files (movies, music, pictures, documents, etc) to an USB external hard drive or USB flash drive (stick) or even burn them to DVD or CD.
Once all your data was saved, you will need to zero write (deep level format delete) your hard drive(s) in order to make sure that no hard drive embedded virus or virus downloader will survive and re-infect your newly installed operating system.
The best software for this is Acronis True Image (no installation is needed, just boot the computer from the Acronis CD and start the Cleanup utility).
Select the whole hard drive, not just partitions and hit next. Select the DoD (Department of Defense) algorithm used by the military as it is the most thorough and safe method of deep deleting a hard drive (it does 4 passes of random writing).
Once your hard drive is wiped clean, do a fresh full install of your operating system on the clean and empty hard drive.
If you use Linux, in most Linux Distros you won't need to install any drivers or codecs, as they are already included in the Linux kernel. There are very few Linux Distros on which you might need to install just your graphics driver and maybe some of the audio and video codecs such as mp3, DivX, xVid, DVD, etc.
However if you use Windows, all drivers and codecs need to be re-installed for proper operation. All the drivers needed will be on the computer manufacturer's website (HP, Dell, etc) or Windows update will find and install them in most cases. You can also look on the hardware manufacturer's website for the appropriate driver needed for each hardware (later added on graphics card and such).
Also all peripherals (printer, scanner, webcam, memory card reader, etc) will need to be re-installed and you will need to install all audio and video codecs such as mp3, DivX, xVid, DVD, etc.

The easiest way to format your computer is by locating your operating system CD. Look for a CD or DVD that specifically says “Operating System” or “System Restore”. Insert the installation disc into your CD or DVD drive.

Restart your computer.

When your computer is restarting, you will be prompted to “Press any key to boot from CD”. Simply press any button on your keyboard when you see this message. If you do not see this message when you restart your computer, you may need to reset your boot disk sequence. *

*To reset the boot sequence, go into BIOS mode. To do this, restart your computer and while restarting press the F1, F2, F10, or maybe the delete key (your computer screen will say “To enter setup press xxx”. You only have a few seconds to press the correct key, so if you miss it you will need to restart your computer and try again. Once you have successfully entered the BIOS mode, look for your boot sequence options. Set the CD ROM drive to be the 1st in the boot sequence. Save your changes and exit.

The CD will load a blue screen, then after a few minutes will ask you to press Enter to set up Windows.

You will then be prompted to select where to install Windows. There will be a box on the lower half of your screen that will either show “Unpartitioned space xxxMB” or will have “Partitioned space xxxMB”. Highlight which partition you wish to format (typically it will be the unpartitioned space or the space with the largest partition by most megabytes). Hit Enter after selecting the space to partition.

The next step is to choose which file system to format the drive with. The NTFS option will be the fastest option. For most formatting purposes, choose the option that ends in “Quick”. Press Enter when done.

The computer will then begin the formatting process. This process may take a while depending on the size of the hard drive you are formatting and the speed of hard drive.

As soon as the drive has been formatted, the operating system files will be copied to the hard drive and the operating system will start installing.

It is a long procedure; you will need to have your CD drive selected as your first boot device. If it not already selected, you will need to go into your bios and set the boot priority to CD, then with your Windows CD in your CD drive, save and exit bios. During the installation your computer will reboot.

Hello Follow this Steps...

Step 1- Installation CD Insert your Windows XP installation disc into your CD or DVD drive.

Step 2 – Restart your computer and start Windows setup using Microsoft Windows bootable XP disk
Restart your computer. As you computer boots, a screen with message “Press any key to boot from CD..” will show up counting from 9 to 0, here you need to press any key to start the setup. Note: If your computer doesn’t display the “Press any key to boot from CD..” message (by default it should), check your motherboard manual for info where to enable the “Boot from CD” setting, after you enable “Boot from CD” option from your BIOS, the message will show.

Step 3 – System Loading
After you enter the setup, the CD will load up a blue screen and will start loading operating system files (this make take few minutes). When it finishes, it will list a few options, “Press ENTER to set up Windows XP now” is the one we need. Click it.

Step 4 – Accept Windows usage agreement
Second screen is “The windows usage agreement”. It should be displayed now, showing that you need to press F8 to accept the agreement. Press F8 to accept. How to format a computer

Step 5 – Setup start
If an existing Windows XP installation is detected by the system, you are prompted to repair it. We will bypass this step

Step 6 – Delete old partition and format
At this point you need to select the partition where you prefer to install Windows Xp. This is where you will delete your partition and format drive C. The box in the lower half of the screen shows all your drives and the partitions that currently exist on your hard disk. Use the Up and Down Arrow keys to highlight/select your “C:” partition and press the “D” key (pic 6.1). On the next screen press the ‘L’ key (pic 6.2) to confirm that you want to delete partition “C:”, and finalize the deleting of the partition. (if you have only “Unpartitioned space” and you have no C: or D: partitions, skip this step) How to format a computer

Step 7 – Create installation partition
Now you should be back on the screen prompted to choose where to install Windows. The box on the lower half of the screen should no longer show a partition, instead of “C:” you should see “Unpartitioned space xxxxxMB”. Select/highlight this with the arrow keys and press the “C” key to create a partition on the drive (this is where you will install windows). Now setup tells you the minimum and maximum sizes the partition can use and lets you pick the size. The default size is the maximum available, leave the default value and press Enter.

Step 8 – Format the computer (the hard disk)
This screen lets you choose the file system you prefer the drive to be formatted with. Choose NTFS “Quick” (recommended because NTFS is faster and more secure). Use the arrow keys to select and hit Enter. How to format a computer

Step 9 – Start Windows XP Setup Setup will start to and will auto-format the “C:” partition, and start with Windows XP installation. From here you are all set and the installation of Windows will proceed. This will take a while. The computer will reboot several times, and will continue with installation. Don’t remove the Windows XP setup CD, and don’t press a key when prompted (we already did that).
