Is WordPress really free?
WordPress as a software is free for you to download and use. However, to use WordPress on the web, you will need WordPress Hosting. You can use WordPress.com to create a free blog, but be aware that there are some differences. Additional costs could be commercial WordPress themes also known as premium WordPress themes.
It is and it isnt. The software version from wordpress.org can be downloaded but that needs to be self hosted. People have trouble doing that because it beats the non technical aspect of Wordpress (which is why and how it caters to users).
The wordpress.com version, which is sold by hosting providers, Bluehost India being the most prominent because of its understanding of Wordpress and having superior servers, infra etc, sell WordPress hosting at a price. So, that's how it is. If you want a good version, where you can pay a premium, I suggest the above brand for sure.
WordPress is and continues to be free because it's not owned by a company. Instead, it's owned by the non-profit WordPress Foundation, which was established "to ensure free access, in perpetuity, to the software projects we support".
Wordpress is a CMS (Content Management System), Its open source and totally free. It do come with free themes and many free plugins so basic needs can be fulfilled without paying money but if you need to accomplish some advance functionalities than you might have to pay for plugins, Premium themes are also available if you want to spend some extra.
No doubt wordpress is most cheapest and easy solution for websites. You can easily found guide, tutorials, resources etc.
