DBMS (Database Management System) refers to the technology of storing and retrieving user's data with utmost efficiency along with appropriate security measures. The DBMS provides users and programmers with a systematic way to create, retrieve, update and manage data.DBMS makes it possible for end users to create, read, update and delete data in a database.
The DBMS essentially serves as an interface between the database and end users or application programs, ensuring that data is consistently organized and remains easily accessible. There are many different types of database management systems, ranging from small systems that run on personal computers to huge systems that run on mainframes.
The following are the examples of database applications:
     computerized library systems
     automated teller machines
     flight reservation systems
