A 301 redirect means that the page has moved to a new location, permanently. A 302 redirect means that the move is temporary. Search engines need to figure out whether to keep the old page, or replace it with the one found at the new location.

"301 Redirect" means that a particular page has been permanently moved to the new location. "302 Redirect" means that a particular page has been temporary moved to the new location.

The 301, or the permanently moved redirect, signals to the crawler that your content has moved permanently, which means forever.

When the web server receives a request for a URL, it can choose to produce a "temporary" redirect - redirecting the request to a different page.

So,301 and 302 redirects are both necessary from an SEO perspective.
