    SEO has changed to more quality with content and link building. With the numerous Google updates SEO has changed much over the last few years.

    SEO is changed completely in previous few years. Now spam and unnatural work not good to do on website.

    The basics have still remained the same. However what has changed with SEO is that it has become much more complex and sophisticated than before.

    An SEO no longer can be one dimensional and needs to have expertise in other areas of marketing also and have analytical skill sets has become more important.

    6 years ago, you ranked based on your quantity of links which meant that data entry operators still could consider themselves as SEO. Thats changed significantly now, you need to have good English skills (for English speaking websites) if you are do well.

    You need to know about rich snippets, schemas, knowledge graph, the hummingbirds, pigeons. Even app store optimization has gained importance as well as mobile SEO. So the skill sets required have drastically changed.

    People who won't evolve with the field are left behind. Thats the challenge for anyone working in the field.
