Thread: Does a filled up hard disk slow down your computer?

Default Does a filled up hard disk slow down your computer?

A simple full vs empty won't have any noticeable effect on the speed. What will affect the speed is the fragmentation level of the drive. If the files on a drive are highly fragmented it will be slower due to having to seek around to a bunch of different locations on the drive to read a file.

In my opinion a filled up drive does effect the speed of the computer but by a sizeably negligible margin. But, there is nothing to worry because the computing is done in the processor with aid of queue-ing from the RAM. HDD does not play a significant role in data processing, so it has less negative effect on the speed of the computer.
    Peace.

Default It tend to slow down

Obviously it tend to slow down your system performance. Because it takes much time to disk to find the free space to write. Its always good to maintain your hard drive half full.

When your hard drive memory is full, it slows down your computer because the operating system doesn't have enough free space to work adequately. To make sure that your computer isn't slow because of a full hard drive, ensure that there is at least 500MB (megabytes) of disk space available.
