    SEO and SEM are two well-known and used actions in digital marketing, but it is important to understand what each strategy means and what the link between them. SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization, also known as website optimization.

    It is a set of techniques that aims to position a website on the first pages of search engines, such as Google, Bing and Yahoo.
    There are several actions that make a website relevant to search engines, such as listing the exact keywords related to your business, so the site appears in the top positions of organic (natural) results.

    Already SEM stands for search engine marketing (translated by some as MOB: search engine optimization marketing).A set of digital marketing strategies that acts through the search tools and aims to promote a website in the results pages of a search engine.SEM strategies can be divided into two categories: natural search or organic results, which is where SEO acts and paid search, which are sponsored links.

    That is, SEM acts on search engines, which have two types of results when a search is performed, organic search results and paid results. Therefore, it acts with specific strategies in each type of outcome.

    To achieve a good positioning in natural results or organic search, SEO is the best tool. On paid links, sponsored links such as Google Adwords or even paid inclusion are used.Sponsored links are interesting because they offer the template called PPC (Pay per click), where you pay according to the amount of clicks you receive in the ad.

    Both target the search engines on the internet and SEO is one of the search engine marketing tools we define as SEM. That way we can say that SEO is the SEM's flagship car, it's a part of it. SEO is the most used within SEM strategies, it is the main one, but another important part is the Sponsored Link.

    The basic difference between the two tools is that SEO is not manipulative, meaning there is no way to pay to have the first positions in the search engines, since with the Sponsored Link it is possible to place a site next to the search results, if pay for it. SEM is an area while SEO is a tool inserted within that area of ​​marketing.

    The two solutions complete and result in one of the most effective strategies of digital marketing, SEO is part of SEM, are complementary actions.
    SEM does not achieve great success without SEO, and the latter brings even better results if worked together with the other strategy of SEM, which are sponsored links.

    The two tools combine, optimizing websites along with sponsored links form an extremely efficient digital marketing strategy.
