I think When we talk about which one is better then I always go for Wordpress because it allows them to have more control over their site without having to know code. The best thing about this CMS is easy to update with some HTML knowledge and no need any additional software to update.

My experience shows that Wordpress sites are indexed much faster by Google and they are well setup to take advantage of SEO. HTML takes a lot of time, and sometimes during the coding process you miss steps which impact your Google SEO efforts. Never tried Joomala, I know others who have - but Wordpress in my opinion is king!
