The complexity of web pages has been continuously increasing in terms of layout, navigation support, information density, etc. Web pages are also viewed from displays of various form factors – mobiles, PDAs, laptops, desktops, wide screens, etc. The problem of adapting web pages to mobile displays has been widely addressed. We argue that most of these approaches increase the cognitive load of browsing these adapted pages. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach: that of segmenting web pages, choosing informative sections, and re-laying the informative sections into a compact form. Both layout preserving and high compaction techniques are presented. For sectioning, we use a novel template-based approach which ensures high sectioning accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.
