-Is this a hobby board, where self-hosting makes sense to keep costs low?
-Are you a brand where reliability and up-time matter most?
-Is this a software solution growing & supported by their creator?
-Do I have the time and knowledge to keep my software up-to-date with the latest patches?
(these are just some of the questions to ask)

The choice, will really come down to your needs, and your objectives.
