Dedicated Server Recommendations for Game Hosting?

I’m searching for a dedicated server to host several multiplayer game servers for a growing community.
Looking for Ryzen or Xeon CPU, 64GB RAM minimum, and strong DDoS protection. Germany, USA, or Canada locations preferred.

One correction worth making on the hardware, because game servers are an
unusual workload: single thread performance beats core count, almost always.
Most game server binaries run one instance largely on one thread. A dual
E5-2680v4 looks impressive on paper — 28 cores, 128GB — but those cores run
around 2.4GHz and a dual socket box adds NUMA latency on top. A current Ryzen
at 4.5GHz+ will host more players per instance than that machine will, for
less money and less power. Spec the clock, not the core count.

64GB is also likely more than you need. RAM is rarely the binding constraint
for game servers — measure the per instance footprint of what you actually
run before buying to a number.

The DDoS question is the one I'd push hardest on, and "we have DDoS
protection" is not an answer. Ask three specifics. Is mitigation always on or
BGP triggered on demand — because on demand means the first thirty to sixty
seconds of every attack reaches you, which is a ruined match every time. What
is the stated time to mitigate. And critically, do they filter UDP, not just
TCP. Game traffic is UDP. A surprising amount of "DDoS protected" hosting is
built around protecting web servers and does very little for you.

On location, pick by where your players actually are and know your tolerance
— around 50ms is fine for most genres, under 30ms if it's competitive
shooters. One box in Frankfurt puts most of Europe inside 30ms. North America
does not work the same way: coast to coast will not stay under that from
either edge, so either go central or plan on two boxes.
